Legacies and gifts to the East Lancashire Railway Preservation Society Ltd.
Formed in 1968 the East Lancashire Railway Preservation Society Ltd provides both physical and financial support to the East Lancashire Railway.
With terminus stations in Heywood and Rawtenstall and railway operations centred in Bury the railway transverses 12.5 miles travelling through the beautiful Irwell Valley.
The aims of the Society are:
To support the preservation of the whole or part of the Ex-British Railways branch line between Rawtenstall and Castleton Junction through Bury together with its connection to the National Rail Network.
To give the East Lancashire Light Railway Co. Ltd. (the Railway) practical assistance through its members in the work of operating, restoring, maintaining and improving locomotives, rolling stock, permanent way and works and all other objects of the Railway.
In addition, the Society has funded through subscriptions, gifts and legacies, infrastructure projects with a value in excess of £500k that have assisted in the maintenance and continued development of the railway.

We would like to thank you for thinking of making a donation to the Society in your will. If you make a donation all the money will go to support the East Lancashire Railway. You also have the option of making a donation to a specific aspect of the running of the railway, such as the “Crab” or development of a specific signal box for example. If you state a specific area of the railway, you wish your donation to go to the donation will be “ring fenced” and will only be spent on what you request.
Lifetime gifts
Some people like to make charitable gifts during their lifetime so that they can see the effect of their donations. The Society welcomes gifts for specific projects and our Secretary will always be happy to discuss any requirements with donors and their advisers.
